Gynecomastia is excessive breast development in men and can be considered as a serious problem, the breast enlargement can be caused by medicines in adults (such as high blood pressure, heart disease and prostate cancer tablets ), and drugs in young people (such as cannabis and anabolic steroids), some diseases (such as liver failure and some cancers) and some very rare congenital abnormalities. These causes should be investigated and eliminated by your GP so the correct treatment can be administered should the gynecomastia be caused by any of the above issues.
The breast is made up of two main components, glandular tissue and fatty tissue . The ratio of glandular to fatty tissue in any breast varies from individual to individual and in gynaecomastia there may be an excess of both. The aim of the gynecomastia surgery is to remove the excess gland or fat tissue by making a small incision along the edge of the areola. To obtain the best aesthetic result this is often combined with liposculpture. In exceptional cases excess skin is sometimes also removed.
Good candidates for gynecomastia surgery are: Healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that impair healing and Non-smokers. We can not accept patients for treatment with a hormonal disorder, or anyone with a steroid intake. Recurrence could happen if weight fluctuation occurs or there is any drug intake.
What you can’t expect: During a consultation with our surgeon, your suitability as a candidate for gynecomastia surgery will be discussed together with your expectations and objectives, where the incisions are made, the length of surgery time, the recovery time and healing process in men.
Breast reduction surgery can result not only physical improvement, it can also improve psychological well-being with a boost to self-confidence and self-image.
